SHORT DESCRIPTION: Changes and Impacts to the Wide Area Network (WAN)

INTENDED AUDIENCE: ERCOT Wide Area Network Participants and Client Services

DAYS AFFECTED: October 4, 2023 till Complete

LONG DESCRIPTION: ERCOT previously sent notification regarding replacing the current provider for all Wide Area Network (WAN) circuits and Managed Network Services (MNS). The replacement for the MNS services has already started and the replacement of WAN circuits is expected to immediately follow with work continuing until the 4^th quarter of 2024.

All Market Participants must be converted and ERCOT’s plan will schedule circuit conversions to minimize costs and service issues to each Market Participant site. ERCOT will begin with a small subset of circuits beginning later this month. As each conversion is scheduled, communications will be sent to each Market Participant with specifics, including dates and expected impacts.

Please forward this Market Notice to anyone in your organization that needs to be informed including technical staff managing the ERCOT WAN handoff.

ACTION REQUIRED: During deployment schedule, ERCOT will order new circuits for each WAN Participant. ERCOT will coordinate with each WAN participant for circuit extension, cutover activity, and testing. Market Participants should expect minimal billing overlap for new and old circuit services during cutover billing cycles.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please be aware that there may be cost increases/decreases between the current and new provider. This is in addition to any new circuit charges. Plan accordingly for these increased expenditures.
