SHORT DESCRIPTION: Launch of the Value of Lost Load (VOLL) Survey for Customers in the ERCOT Region

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Competitive Retailers (CRs) and Non-Opt In Entities (NOIEs)

DAYS AFFECTED: March 26, 2024

LONG DESCRIPTION: As directed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), ERCOT, in concert with its consultant, The Brattle Group (Brattle), and its survey administration subcontractor, PlanBeyond, has launched a customer survey to help estimate the Value of Lost Load (VOLL) for the ERCOT Region.  At the PUCT's March 21, 2024 Open Meeting, ERCOT described the survey implementation plan included in its update filing to the VOLL Survey Work Plan and PUCT Staff outlined the communications strategy to support this effort.  A 'soft launch' of the survey commenced on March 26, 2024, which is intended to confirm operation of systems and to address any technical issues with a smaller set of customers before the full rollout begins on April 9, 2024.  The first phase of survey outreach will be to customers in competitive retail areas; outreach with Non Opt-In Entity (NOIE) partners will begin in mid-April.

The PUCT has published a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page on its website as a resource to provide additional information on the VOLL survey to customers and other stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Additional information on the VOLL initiative is available in PUCT Project No. 55837.
