NOTICE DATE: April 19, 2019

NOTICE TYPE: M-A041919-01 General

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Fraudulent email messages appearing to come from ERCOT

INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED: April 18, 2019

LONG DESCRIPTION: On April 18, 2019, ERCOT received reports that some Market Participants have received fraudulent emails using a spoofed email address appearing to come from ERCOT. Upon investigation, it appears that these email messages-which did not originate from ERCOT-may include a URL that, when clicked, directs users to a malicious website.

ERCOT has identified the following details about the spoofed emails:

********* Spoofed email address: [log in to unmask]

********* Subject line: Energy Contract Review

The email address "[log in to unmask]" is not used by ERCOT, and Market Participants should not expect emails with this email address from ERCOT. Please be on alert for this fraudulent email and take appropriate security measures as needed.

Market Participants that received the fraudulent email are encouraged to report the incident to their ERCOT Account Manager. If you believe you are unable to securely contact ERCOT by email, you may call Client Services at (512) 248-3900.
