PGDTF,

The materials for Pass 4 of the GIC Model Build have been posted to MIS. For this pass, we will be working on updating the shunt tables and 2TDC table. Unlike the previous model build, you should model ALL bus or line connected shunt reactors. Not just the ones that are switched on in the case.

Due to modeling deficiencies, GIC flows could not be calculated in PSSE. However preliminary flows could be found using PowerWorld and have been included in the GIC System Model Build Pass 4 Materials.

There are a number of buses that exist in the GIC AC Model and not the GIC DC Model. Those buses need to be submitted to the GIC DC Model using the template. Additionally, there are some buses that exist in the GIC AC Model, and in the database, but the respective Case in the Bus Table (SUM/MIN) is not marked to True. Those buses are then not exported as they should be causing some errors. There are also some incorrect vector groups that are not accepted by PSSE.

There are also other issues that were discovered while trying to find GIC flows but did not cause PSSE to error out. These are:

  1. Shunts in the DC Model but not in the AC Model.
  2. Branches in the DC Model but not in the AC Model.

All of the issues listed above can be found in the GIC Pass Four Materials - Data Issues folder: SUM and MIN Error Logs.

In the MIS postings under: GIC Case Build Pass Files, there is a zip file with all the necessary materials. Inside the zip file is a folder called Data Issues. Please review the sheets in there and make corrections based off of them if the equipment is yours. A new full database validation has also been included along with the line data issues spreadsheet that was released in the previous passes (which has not been updated).

Please update the shunt tables and 2TDC adding shunts that need to be added new shunts and removing shunts no longer in the case.

The deadline for this pass has been moved up to the end of this week. I understand that it may not be possible to get your submission in by then which is fine. I am closing the pass this week to allow for a day to build and import changes so I can release a new update to date version of the model before the TSP Face to Face modeling meeting on June 12th after PGDTF.

Pass 3 End Date: 6/7/2019
