SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Whitney SPS in service

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  June 30, 2009

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT approved a proposal from Brazos Electric for a new Special Protection System (SPS) for the Whitney transformer on April 13, 2009, per Market Notice M-B030509-02. This SPS is intended to protect against overloading on the Whitney 345/138 kV transformer that may occur with the loss of the Bosque Switch – Elm Mott 345 kV Line and high dispatch of 345 kV generation at the Bosque Switching Station.

As of June 30, 2009, this SPS is in-service. Further details of the Sandow Switch SPS can be found in the “Special Protection Systems Information” section of the Planning and Operations Information secure website at the link below.
