SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Proposal to disable the Macedonia SPS
INTENDED AUDIENCE: ERCOT
Market Participants
DAY AFFECTED: August 20,
2009
LONG
DESCRIPTION: ERCOT has received a request to permanently disable
the Special Protection System (SPS) at Macedonia. This SPS is intended to
open the 138 kV transmission tie line between the Lower Colorado River
Authority (LCRA) Transmission Services Corporation (TSC) and CenterPoint Energy
at the Macedonia substation when specific contingencies cause overloads on the
Waller-Macedonia line due to large North to Houston power transfers. This SPS
would be disabled due to a recent upgrade to the line. The owner of the SPS believes
it can be permanently disabled and ERCOT is currently reviewing this
proposal.
Further details of the Macedonia SPS can be found in the
“Special Protection Systems Information” section of the ERCOT
