NOTICE TYPE:  M-A081009-02 UPDATE: Outage – Retail Processing

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT originally reported a retail processing systems outage from 11:19 PM Sunday, August 9, 2009 to 12:00 AM on Monday, August 10, 2009. Further investigation has determined that the outage extended until 3:50 AM on Monday, August 10, 2009.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED:  11:19 PM Sunday, August 9, 2009 to 3:50 AM on Monday, August 10, 2009

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT’s retail processing systems experienced an outage in service from 11:19 PM Sunday, August 9, 2009 to 3:50 AM on Monday, August 10, 2009.  

This outage was due to a hardware failure caused by a configuration issue as a result of scheduled maintenance. The configuration issue cascaded through the network causing an unexpected outage.

 The retail systems have been functioning properly since 3:50 AM Monday, August 10, 2009.
