SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Proposal to disable the Whitney SPS

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  October 29, 2009

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has received a request to permanently disable the Special Protection System (SPS) at Whitney. This SPS is intended to relieve loading on the Whitney 345/138 kV Autotransformer for the loss of the Bosque – Elm Mott 345 kV Line.  The exit strategy for this SPS was the installation of a second 345/138 kV Autotransformer at the Whitney substation.  The second autotransformer has since been installed. The owner of the SPS believes it can be permanently disabled and ERCOT is currently reviewing this proposal.
