NOTICE TYPE:  M-B110209-01 Operations

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Proposal to disable the McDonald Road and Drumright SPSs

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  October 25, 2009

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has received a request to permanently disable the Special Protection Systems (SPS) at McDonald Road and Drumright. These SPSs are intended to relieve overloading on the 138 kV system from Spraberry to Morgan Creek that can occur under various system conditions. A new 138 kV line from McDonald Road to Big Spring has been installed, providing an additional path for power to flow in the area. Because of this new line coming into service, the owner of the SPS believes it can be permanently disabled. ERCOT is currently reviewing this proposal.

Further details of these SPSs can be found in the “Special Protection Systems Information” section of the ERCOT Planning and Operations Information secure website:  http://planning.ercot.com/login/login.
