NOTICE DATE:  June 21, 2011

NOTICE TYPE:  M-A051011-03 General

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Upgrade to 2048-bit SSL server certificates

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  June 22, 2011

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has rescheduled the Application Programmatic Interface (API) certificate changes that were deferred from the previously scheduled change date of June 15, 2011, due to system operational conditions. With more favorable conditions expected, ERCOT will be migrating MIS.ercot.com and MISAPI.ercot.com to the new 2048-bit Secured Socket Layer (SSL) server certificates at 11:00 CDT tomorrow, June 22, 2011. All Market Participants will need to install the new root and intermediate server certificates, in accordance with the attached instructions, prior to the ERCOT migration.

Failure to install the new root and intermediate server certificates by 11:00 CDT on June 22, 2011, will result in unavailability of programmatic querying and submissions, including API submissions, Get Report functionality and the use of External Web Services (EWS).

For Windows based API applications, the root certificate attached to this notice will need to be installed into the trusted root certificate store at the server level. This can be done through the Microsoft Management Console. An application restart is suggested to recognize the new certificate.

For UNIX based systems, the root certificate will need to be converted based on your specific application requirements and installed into the local trusted root certificate store.

For browser users, the root certificate attached to this notice will need to be installed into the trusted root certificate store at the workstation level. This can be done through the Microsoft Management Console by the system administrators.

If you have already installed the new certificates, please disregard this Notice as there is no need to install the certificates again.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  As a reminder, the ERCOT Market Operations Test Environment (MOTE) is available for market testing of the 2048-bit certificates prior to the production cutover. The MOTE environment can be accessed with the following URLs:
