SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Method to properly view the LMPs by Electrical Bus Report data in Excel

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

LONG DESCRIPTION:  When opened in Excel, the LMPs by Electrical Bus Report (EMIL ID NP6-787-CD, Report ID 11485) automatically removes any leading zeros in the Electrical Bus identifier (column C) for buses that are only identified by a number. For example, Electrical Bus 0001 appears as Electrical Bus 1 in the report. This can result in the appearance of duplicate buses as Electrical Bus 0001 looks the same in the report as Electrical Bus 01.

In order to open the file so that it is properly viewed in Excel, use the following steps:

·         Download the report from ERCOT.com or the Market Information System (MIS) and unzip it in CSV format locally

·         In Excel, open a new document (ctrl-N)

·         On the ‘Data’ tab, select ‘From Text’

·         Select the report file that was saved in the first step

·         Select ‘Delimited’, ‘Next’

·         Select ‘Comma’, ‘Next’

·         Select Electrical Bus column and change format to ‘Text’

·         Select ‘Finish’

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Alternatively, the leading zeros can be viewed by opening the report in WordPad. The XML version of the report also displays correctly.

The LMPs by Electrical Bus Report is located on ERCOT.com in the Market Information, Market Prices section. It is also located on the Markets – Real-Time Market Landing Page on the MIS.
