SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Proposed Disabling of Whirlwind SPS

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  Comments due April 24, 2012

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT received a request to disable the Whirlwind Special Protection System (SPS) by American Electric Power Co. Inc. (AEP).  The Whirlwind SPS protects against overloads of the Matador to Paducah Clare Street 69 kV and the Matador to Spur 69kV lines.  AEP believes that the transmission upgrades necessary to exit this SPS will be completed by the end of June.

The request to disable this SPS is being reviewed by ERCOT as described in the SPS Approval Procedure.  Comments on the proposed SPS disabling are due by April 24, 2012 and should be submitted to [log in to unmask] using the attached comment form.  Any questions or concerns raised during this timeframe will be addressed by ERCOT Staff or the entity submitting the SPS proposal.

Further details of these SPSs can be found in the “Special Protection Systems Information” section of the ERCOT Planning and Operations Information secure website:  http://planning.ercot.com/login/login.
