NOTICE DATE:  February 19, 2014

NOTICE TYPE:  M-B021914-01 Extracts

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Change in all Market Information Repository (MIR) file naming conventions.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  April 2014

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT is in the testing phase of PR0047-01CMSDK/MIR Replacement which replaces the current back end Market Information Repository (MIR) system with a new Information Content Exchange (ICE) system.  The MIR/ICE systems store externally delivered files that are found on the Market Information System (MIS), ERCOT.com and External Web Services (EWS).   This project is set to go-live in the late March to April timeframe.  Shortly thereafter, ERCOT will implement a change to the report file naming convention to introduce milliseconds into token 5 of the filename. The addition of the millisecond format, as described in detail in the information below, will apply to all unexpired (i.e., new and existing) files available for download from any point of access.

Upon implementation of the millisecond addition, all files that were posted directly to the current MIR system and then migrated to the new ICE system will display a ‘000’ millisecond value. All files posted directly to the new ICE system will contain the actual millisecond values.

Entities downloading files prior to or between the MIR to ICE system change and the introduction of millisecond risk having two files with the same content that have two different naming conventions due to the token 5 value changes.

The current configuration as seen in the example below displays token 5 in the HHMISS format (hour hour minute minute second second).

‘prefix.8DigitReportTypeID.16DigitDUNSNUMBER.YYYYMMDD.HHMISS.freeformfilename.extension’

The new convention will add milliseconds to the configuration in token 5 in the HHMISSsss format (hour hour minute minute second second millisecond millisecond millisecond).

‘prefix.8DigitReportTypeID.16DigitDUNSNUMBER.YYYYMMDD.HHMISSsss.freeformfilename.extension’

A description of the standard file naming convention follows.  Please note that each token is period (.) delimited.

Token 1 = 3 character alpha format representing the file prefix.

Token 2 = 8 character numeric format representing the report type ID assigned to the product (currently pre-padded with three zeroes).

Token 3 = 16 character numeric format representing the Duns file prefix (pre-padded with zeroes for 9 and 13 digit duns holders).

Token 4 = YYMMDD 6 character numeric format representing the date.

Token 5 = HHMISS 6 character numeric format representing the timestamp.  Will change to 9 character numeric format upon ICE implementation.

Token 6 = 648 character alpha numeric format representing the free form file name field (excluding all special characters except underscores and dashes).

Token 7 = 3 character alpha format representing the file extension.  Will allow for 4 character alpha format upon ICE implementation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  During the system cutover or during a rollback, the doclookup ID may change for previously posted unexpired files. For file identification, ERCOT recommends using a combination of date and time with report type ID, DUNS and free form file name to ensure file uniqueness. All confirmed implementation affected dates, times and any additional impacts will be provided at a later date.
