SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Update to the proposal to disable Collin Switching Station SPS #19

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  January 28, 2015

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT received a proposal to disable the Collin Switching Station Special Protection System (SPS #19) from Oncor Electric Delivery Company (Oncor). The Collin SPS was designed to monitor and relieve thermal violations on the 345/138 kV autotransformer #1 at Collin Switching Station. Oncor proposed to disable the SPS after the second 345/138 kV autotransformer at Collin Switching Station had been installed and rebuild of Collin Switching Station was complete. The exit strategy for the Collin SPS was installation of the second 345/138 kV autotransformer at Collin Switching Station.

ERCOT has completed its review of the proposal to disable the Collin Switching Station SPS and is recommending that the Collin Switching Station SPS (SPS #19) be removed.

The Collin SPS is scheduled to be permanently removed from the field on March 31, 2015. Oncor has indicated that post retirement, this SPS will be placed in manual mode with supervisory control.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Information regarding SPSs can be found on the ERCOT Market Information System (MIS) under Special Protection Systems and Remedial Action Plans.  A digital certificate is required to access the MIS.
