SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Update - Proposal to retire China Grove Special Protection System

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has completed its review of the proposal to retire the China Grove Special Protection System (SPS) from Oncor Electric Delivery Company. The China Grove SPS was designed to monitor and relieve thermal violations on the two Morgan Creek – China Grove 138 kV lines.

 

With the completion of upgrades in the area, including the installation of the Barber Lake Switching Station, ERCOT is recommending that the China Grove SPS be retired. This SPS has been disabled since August 22, 2013.

 

The China Grove SPS is scheduled to be retired on July 6, 2016.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Information regarding all SPSs can be found in the “Special Protection Systems and Remedial Action Plans” portlet located on the Long-Term Planning page of ERCOT’s Market Information System (MIS). A Digital Certificate is required to access the MIS.

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Proposal to retire China Grove Special Protection System

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  Comments due June 9, 2016

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has received a proposal from Oncor Electric Delivery Company (Oncor) to retire the China Grove Special Protection System (SPS). The China Grove SPS was designed to monitor and relieve thermal violations on the two Morgan Creek – China Grove 138 kV lines. Oncor has indicated there have been upgrades in the area, including the installation of the Barber Lake Switching Station. This SPS has been disabled since August 22, 2013.

 

The proposal to retire the China Grove SPS is being reviewed by ERCOT. Comments on the proposal are due by June 9, 2016 and should be submitted to [log in to unmask]  using the attached comment form.  Any questions or concerns submitted by this date will be addressed by ERCOT and/or Oncor. 

ACTION REQUIRED:  Any comments to this proposal are due to ERCOT by June 9, 2016, using the attached form.

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  China Grove SPS Temporarily Disabled

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED:  August 22, 2013

LONG DESCRIPTION:  The China Grove Special Protection System (SPS) has been temporarily disabled today, August 22, 2013, due to the observation of intermittent changes in the direction of power flow on the Morgan Creek to China Grove 138 kV double circuit lines.  The China Grove SPS is not designed to address flow in more than one direction. Consequently, the SPS has been disabled, and the China Grove series reactors will be manually placed in and out of service in the interim as necessary until the SPS can be modified to account for the change in system flow. Outage Scheduler should be referenced for status of the series reactors.
