SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Update - Proposal to Modify Permian Basin Special Protection System

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  August 31, 2016

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has completed its review of the proposal from Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC (Oncor) to modify the Special Protection System (SPS) at Permian Basin Switching Station (Permian Basin). The Permian Basin SPS is designed to monitor & relieve thermal violations on the Permian Basin – Wink 138 kV line (6550) and the Permian Basin – Ward Gulf Tap – Wind 138 kV line (6545_A).

With completion of upgrades in the area, ERCOT is recommending that the Permian Basin SPS be modified by disabling the relays monitoring 6550, and increasing the relay settings of 6545_A to 287 MVA as proposed.

The relays monitoring 6550 are scheduled to be disabled on August 31, 2016. The relay settings of the 6545_A are scheduled to be modified by December 31, 2016.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Information regarding this proposal and all SPSs can be found in the “Special Protection Systems and Remedial Action Plans” portlet located on the Long-Term Planning page of ERCOT’s Market Information System (MIS). A digital certificate is required to access the MIS.
