NOTICE TYPE:  W-A052517-01 Legal

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Vendor Data Issue

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  May 22, 2017

LONG DESCRIPTION:  On May 22, 2017, ERCOT was notified by a non-ERCOT Market Participant/Stakeholder that its employees could view ERCOT’s market management and outage scheduling issues in ABB’s issue tracking system. ABB has confirmed that access controls for the system allowed their software clients to view tickets from any other client, including ERCOT.  Upon learning of the data issue, ERCOT requested that ABB remove all user access to the system to prevent any additional information from being shared. ABB locked access to the system at approximately 6:00 pm on May 22, 2017.

ABB informed ERCOT that its forensics team has not found any evidence to suggest that information from ERCOT’s tracking system has been viewed by other software clients. ERCOT staff has been working closely with ABB to determine the cause of the disclosure, as well as impacts to ERCOT and Market Participant data. ERCOT is also conducting an internal investigation, evaluating the types of information contained in its tracking system, and trying to determine whether it is possible to identify who accessed or could have accessed ERCOT’s information. In addition, ERCOT is reviewing the data disclosure to determine additional regulatory/legal impacts. ERCOT will continue to provide Market Participants with updates concerning the data issue.
