NOTICE DATE: December 20, 2017
NOTICE TYPE: M-A122017-01 Release
SHORT DESCRIPTION: Upgrade of the Client Digital Certificates Download Process in MOTE
INTENDED AUDIENCE: ERCOT Market Participants
DAY AFFECTED: December 21, 2017
LONG DESCRIPTION: On Thursday, December 21, 2017, ERCOT will make the Market Operations Test Environment (MOTE) available for testing of upcoming changes to the Market Participant Identity Management (MPIM) application to allow for adequate market testing of the new Digital Certificate download process prior to the production cutover (currently scheduled for ERCOT’s February 2018 release). Details of this change have been communicated through a WebEx workshop.
Microsoft has phased out Active-X technology with the release of the new browser, Microsoft Edge. To meet future requirements, ERCOT will also shift away from using Active-X during the downloading of a Digital Certificate. With the upcoming change, Digital Certificates will be downloaded as a file, instead of being installed directly into the browser. Users will be required to secure the file when downloaded. This new process will be the same for new Digital Certificates as well as Digital Certificate renewals.
An “ERCOT Digital Certificate Download Process” document outlining the new process can be found here.
ACTION REQUIRED: User Security Administrators (USAs) are encouraged to coordinate the testing of the new Digital Certificate download process in the MOTE environment and communicate the upcoming changes to users that will be impacted when the new process is implemented in the production environment (currently scheduled for ERCOT’s February 2018 release).
