SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Commissioning of Alibates Synchronous Condenser

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  ERCOT Market Participants

DAY AFFECTED:  February 19, 2018

LONG DESCRIPTION:  Sharyland Utilities has completed its initial tuning for the synchronous condenser at the Alibates substation.  The synchronous condenser will be placed in service for continual operation on February 19, 2018.  At that time, ERCOT will begin considering the synchronous condenser in its calculation of limits for the Panhandle Generic Transmission Constraint (GTC).  The purpose of this notice is to provide contemporaneous notification to all ERCOT Market Participants of the topology change in the Panhandle, as it may have an impact on the limits associated with the Panhandle GTC.  ERCOT has updated the methodology for the Panhandle GTC in anticipation of the Alibates synchronous condenser being placed normally in-service.

Details associated with all existing GTCs can be found on the ERCOT MIS Secure Area in the “Generic Transmission Constraints” portlet.  A Digital Certificate is required to access the MIS Secure Area.
