NOTICE DATE:  June 1, 2018

NOTICE TYPE:  W-A060118-01 Operations

SHORT DESCRIPTION:  2018 Summer and Fall Voltage Profiles

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  Generator Operators, Transmission Service Providers, Transmission Operators, and Qualified Scheduling Entities

DAY AFFECTED:  June 1, 2018

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has posted the 2018 Summer (June 1, 2018 – August 31, 2018) and Fall (September 1, 2018 – November 30, 2018) Voltage Profiles, which include set points for each Generation Resource Point of Interconnection (POI), to the Transmission Service Provider Information page of the ERCOT Market Information System (MIS) Secure Area.  ERCOT and the Transmission Service Providers (TSPs) derived these Voltage Profiles after a series of joint studies and several meetings.

All NERC-registered Generator Operators are hereby directed to coordinate with their respective TSP to comply with their specific set point in the Voltage Profile.  In accordance with ERCOT Nodal Operating Guide Section 2.7.3.5(4), Resource Entity Responsibilities and Generation Resource Requirements, a Resource Entity required to provide Voltage Support Service (VSS) must maintain the generator voltage or Reactive Power schedule within 2% of the set point identified in the Voltage Profile when operating at less than the maximum reactive capability of the Generation Resource, except under Force Majeure Events or unless explicitly authorized by or requested by ERCOT or the interconnecting Transmission Operator (TO).  In addition, in accordance with Protocols Section 3.15.3, Generation Resource Requirements Related to Voltage Support, each Generation Resource must be operated in automatic voltage control mode and at the set point in the posted Voltage Profile, except as provided therein.  A Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) should immediately notify ERCOT and the interconnected TSP if its Generation Resource cannot operate within 2% of the set point identified in the assigned Voltage Profile or alternate voltage set point directed by the interconnected TSP or ERCOT.

In accordance with NERC Reliability Standard VAR-001-4.1 R5, the spreadsheet posted on the Market Information System (MIS) lists voltage set points for every Generation Resource at its POI in columns (G, K) and (V, Z). Voltage set points at the high side of the step-up transformer are listed in columns (L, N) and (AA, AC).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  The Seasonal Voltage Profile Studies for Summer and Fall 2018 can be accessed on the Voltage Profiles portlet of the Transmission Service Provider Information page of the ERCOT Market Information System (MIS) Secure Area. A Digital Certificate is required to access the MIS.
