SHORT DESCRIPTION: Need for a Generic Transmission Constraint in the Bearkat Area

INTENDED AUDIENCE: ERCOT Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED: November 20, 2019

LONG DESCRIPTION: Based on the results of the Quarterly Stability Assessment (QSA) for Q4 of 2019, performed pursuant to Planning Guide Section 5.9 Quarterly Stability Assessment, ERCOT has identified the need for a Generic Transmission Constraint (GTC) in the Bearkat area. The need arises from the installation of new Generation Resources in the region. The GTC is established to address the voltage and oscillatory instability issues in the Bearkat Area, and has been named the Bearkat GTC.

The purpose of this notice is to provide contemporaneous notification to all ERCOT Market Participants of the need for the Bearkat GTC. ERCOT will begin enforcing the updated limits for this GTC on November 20, 2019.

Details associated with all existing GTCs can be found on the ERCOT MIS Secure Area in the “Generic Transmission Limits” portlet on the Grid > Transmission page.  A Digital Certificate is required to access the MIS Secure Area.
