NOTICE TYPE: W-B121820-01 Operations

SHORT DESCRIPTION: 2021 Minimum Monthly Ancillary Service Requirements

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Qualified Scheduling Entities, Resource Entities, and Load Serving Entities

DAYS AFFECTED: January 1, 2021

LONG DESCRIPTION: ERCOT Protocol Section 3.16 requires ERCOT to annually determine the methodology for the minimum levels of each Ancillary Service required and for the ERCOT Board of Directors (Board) to review and approve the methodology. On December 8, 2020, the ERCOT Board approved the 2021 ERCOT Methodologies for Determining Ancillary Service Requirements (2021 AS Methodology). The 2021 AS Methodology will be effective beginning January 1, 2021. Please refer to ERCOT’s December 8, 2020 presentation to the ERCOT Board for additional details about the 2021 AS Methodology.

Per the 2021 AS Methodology, the minimum monthly Ancillary Services quantities for 2021 have been posted in the Ancillary Service Requirement Methodology (EMIL ID NP3-783-M, Report ID 13036) on ERCOT’s Market Information System (MIS) under the Grid Forecasts section. The posted quantities reflect minimum requirements only. ERCOT will issue a Market Notice if any upward adjustments to these minimum quantities are made.

Note that the minimum Ancillary Services quantities for 2021 posted reflect the changes in the Regulation requirement as a result of the implementation of SCR 811, which is scheduled to be in production before June 1, 2021. ERCOT will issue a Market Notice when the adjustment to the Regulation requirement is needed in the case that the effective date for SCR 811 is changed from the schedule.
