SHORT DESCRIPTION: ERCOT to launch general availability Public API

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Public Users and Market Participants

LONG DESCRIPTION: In December 2023, ERCOT launched a beta version of its Public API application. Now, on February 23, 2024, the general availability version of the Public API application will be launched. The application will be open to Market Participants as well as the public.

The Public API consists of four components:

  1. A Data Access Portal (https://data.ercot.com) for users to browse current as well as expired data by selecting from an existing list of provided data reports.
  2. An API Explorer (https://apiexplorer.ercot.com) for developers to learn specifications on how to use the APIs.
  3. An API Gateway (https://api.ercot.com), the actual tool that allows applications to call the APIs.
  4. A Developer Portal (https://developer.ercot.com) providing documentation and additional development resources.

The Data Access Portal provides public users and Market Participants access to expired ERCOT public data through a web portal and directly through the use of APIs. Users can extract and browse the latest data, as well as expired data, from certain public ERCOT reports. Initially, 35 reports are available in the Data Access Portal, with the number of reports increasing with time. To locate public data that is not included in the Data Access Portal, please continue to search the ERCOT Market Information List (EMIL).

The API Explorer provides Market Participant developers with a RESTful framework based on OpenAPI standards, allowing developers to build their own applications using ERCOT reports.

Access to and use of these websites is covered by the legal information provided on the ERCOT Terms of Use (TOU) page. Users must accept the TOU in order to use the sites.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ERCOT encourages users to offer feedback for improving the portals. Please send feedback about these portals via the ERCOT Public Portal or via your Account Manager. Previous notices were sent on November 21, 2023, December 14, 2023, and January 24, 2024.
