NOTICE DATE: May 02, 2016
NOTICE TYPE: M-A050216-01 General
SHORT DESCRIPTION: Using Windows 10 and installing Digital Certificates
INTENDED AUDIENCE: User Security Administrators
DAY AFFECTED: April 29, 2016
LONG DESCRIPTION: Market Participants upgrading their operating systems to Microsoft Windows 10 have encountered issues when installing ERCOT Digital Certificates. Windows 10 sets the default browser to Microsoft EDGE which does not support ActiveX controls required to install ERCOT Digital Certificates. In addition, ERCOT's Digital Certificate installation process did not recognize the Windows 10 operating system.
In order to install ERCOT Digital Certificates, Windows 10 users MUST have Internet Explorer 11 (IE11), which supports ActiveX controls.
ERCOT has developed a workaround for users with Windows 10 operating systems and IE11 browsers. This Market Notice identifies the steps required to launch IE11 and as an option to set IE11 as the default browser so that ActiveX will be available to install ERCOT Digital Certificates.
ACTION REQUIRED: ERCOT advises User Security Administrators (USAs) to follow these procedures to install Digital Certificates for users with Windows 10.

1. Set IE11 as the default browser:

a. Launch the Settings app

b. Select default apps

c. Scroll to Web browser and select IE11

2. Launch IE11:

a. Click on Start menu

b. Click on All Apps

c. Scroll down and click on the Windows Accessories

d. Click on Internet Explorer

3. In IE11 set the compatibility mode

a. Click on Tools icon (upper right corner)

b. On the Tools menu, Click on Compatibility View Settings

c. Add ercot.com to the Websites list

4. Launch the Digital Certificate installation process.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The above issue is limited to users for whom a new digital certificate is being installed or an existing digital certificate is being renewed.
