SHORT DESCRIPTION:  Update - Proposal to modify Morgan Creek Switching Station Special Protection System

LONG DESCRIPTION:  ERCOT has completed its review of Oncor Electric Delivery's (Oncor) proposal to modify the Morgan Creek Switching Station Special Protection System (SPS). The Morgan Creek SPS is currently designed to monitor & relieve thermal violations on Morgan Creek to Barber Lake 138 kV lines, Morgan Creek to Sun Switch 138 kV Line and Morgan Creek 138/69 kV autotransformer under various system conditions.



In the summer of 2015, Oncor replaced the existing autotransformer at Morgan Creek Switching Station with a new 177 MVA 138/69 kV autotransformer. The upgrade of the Morgan Creek 138/69 kV autotransformer is complete; however, a 138 kV terminal rated at 600 A will limit the flow on the Morgan Creek 138/69 kV autotransformer until the 138 kV bus is upgraded in Fall of 2015.


ERCOT has completed its review and is recommending that the arming limit for protecting the 138/69 kV autotransformer Morgan Creek SPS be modified to 600 A as proposed.
The Morgan Creek SPS is scheduled to be modified on August 25, 2015.
