NOTICE DATE: November 10, 2014
NOTICE TYPE: W-A111014-01 Operations
SHORT DESCRIPTION: Retirement of the West to North Generic Transmission Constraint and Interconnection Reliability Operating Limit on December 01, 2014
INTENDED AUDIENCE: ERCOT Market Participants
DAY AFFECTED: December 01, 2014
LONG DESCRIPTION: ERCOT has been monitoring the West to North Generic Transmission Constraint (GTC) and studying the impact of CREZ system improvements completed earlier this year. Based on the results of these evaluations, ERCOT has determined that there is no longer an achievable operating limit based on transient stability or voltage stability for the existing West to North interface. The West to North limit is also an Interconnection Reliability Operating Limit (IROL).

ERCOT Operations will cease calculating and providing a West to North Generic Transmission Limit (GTL) to the Day Ahead Market on November 30, 2014 for Operating Day December 1, 2014 and will retire the West to North IROL. ERCOT plans to remove the GTC from the network operations model and market systems on the December 4, 2014 database load. Between December 1, 2014 and December 3, 2014 the Day Ahead Market Systems will use 9999 as the limit until the interface can be permanently removed from the model.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ERCOT is finalizing the report on the GTC and will post the final report on the Transmission page of the MIS Secure Area<https://mis.ercot.com/pps/tibco/mis/Pages/Grid+Information/Transmission> under "Generic Transmission Limits methodology." ERCOT will send a separate Market Notice and comment form later this week once the report has been posted.
